Personal excellence can be achieved by a visionary goal, through planning, dedicated execution, and total follow-through.
– Gerald Ford

Because all programs are customized to the needs of the client, it is difficult to precisely describe a typical consult. However, the consulting process generally consists of four distinct stages:

Initial Consultation | Education | Guided Acquisition | Implementation

Initial Consultation

The complementary initial consultation is an opportunity for us to get know one another. You will describe your vision for yourself or your team, and I will explain in simple, practical terms how mental skills training can help you realize that vision. During the meeting, you will get a sense for my personality and consulting style so that you can make an informed decision regarding the goodness of fit. The goal of the initial consultation is for us to mutually assess the merits of establishing an ongoing consulting relationship.

Consulting typically begins with an educational phase in which the individual or team is introduced to the core mental attitudes, skills, and processes that are essential to optimal performance. You will also learn why these mental factors have such a strong impact on performance, which will enhance confidence in the process and provide motivation for putting in the effort required to master the skills. In other words, the education phase aims at answering both the what and the why of mental skills training.

Guided Acquisition

In the guided acquisition phase, you will be provided specific, concrete instruction on how to begin putting your newly learned mental skills into practice. Our methodical, step-by-step approach will allow you to learn at your own pace. During this phase, it is critical that you ask plenty of questions to sort out any confusion or difficulties you might be having. The guided acquisition phase aims at answering the how of mental skills training and provides an opportunity to experiment with the different skills to determine what works best for you.

As you become more proficient with utilizing mental skills and are able to use them automatically, you will begin to integrate them more fully into your practice and pre-performance routines. Through further experimentation and feedback, we will determine the sequencing and timing that produces the most optimal results for you. The implementation phase is where we truly pinpoint precisely the skills and processes that get your mind ripe for performance so that you can deliver your best when it matters most.
